What's Your Excuse

Think you're unqualified to minister to other people? Consider this:

  1. Moses stuttered.
  2. David's armor didn't fit.
  3. John Mark was undependable.
  4. Hosea married a prostitute.
  5. Amos only had experience as a fig tree pruner.
  6. Jacob was a liar.
  7. David had an affair.
  8. Solomon had too much money.
  9. Abraham was too old.
  10. Timothy had ulcers.
  11. Joseph was a nuisance.
  12. Paul was ugly.
  13. Peter was a coward.
  14. Lazarus was dead.
  15. John was self-righteous.
  16. Jesus was homeless.
  17. Naomi was a widow.
  18. Jonah was disobedient.
  19. Miriam was a gossip.
  20. Gideon and Thomas were doubters.
  21. Jeremiah was suicidal.
  22. Elijah suffered from depression.
  23. Paul was a murderer.
  24. So was Moses.
  25. Not to mention David.
  26. John the Baptist dressed funny.
  27. Martha was a worrywart.
  28. Samson needed a haircut.
  29. Noah had a drinking problem.
  30. Moses had a short fuse.
  31. Zacchaeus was very short.
  32. David was only a teenager.
  33. So was Mary, the mother of Jesus.
  34. So was Daniel.
  35. So were many others who were used by God.
Where to Take It from Here?

Fortunately, God doesn't require a job interview for his ministry. He doesn't do background checks or ask for references. He doesn't care what your qualifications are.

The fact is, no one is qualified to serve God. If you think you're qualified, you'll likely fail. God calls unqualified people because the only way they can be successful in their ministry is to depend completely on him. As God told Moses, “Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say” (Exodus 4:12).
